In what might be considered a no-brainer of a post, I’m going to avert your gaze over to An English Haunting – the latest point and click adventure from Postmodern Adventures – as it’s now available on Steam and Itch.io. What do you mean, “What’s that, you say?”.

From the developer behind the superb Nightmare Frames, this tale takes place in London circa 1907 and follows Professor Patrick Moore (no, not the GamesMaster) as he has to prove the existence of the supernatural; otherwise, his department will be shut down.

An English Haunting Review: Nevemore Will I Not Believe
Professor Moore loses everything. The only way he can reclaim it is by proving ghosts exist in An English Haunting.

I won’t go into all the ins and outs as this is high on my radar, and I aim to provide coverage soon. Here are some of the key features in the meantime:

  •  Point & click adventure gameplay based on inventory puzzles.
  • More than 60 detailed pixel art backgrounds to explore.
  • A cast of more than 70 characters to interact with, including real figures from the period, such as the medium Florence Cook, physicist William Crookes, illusionist Harry Houdini, and even writer Arthur Conan Doyle, whom you will control to solve one of the game’s mysteries.
  • Take a breather from history by reading horror stories at Falk’s Horror Books, perusing an archive of supernatural cases, or going to the theater to watch the last film sensation by Georges Méliès: Évocation Spirite.
  • Inspired by the works of the greatest horror authors from the beginning of the 20th century, M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, and Arthur Machen.
  • From the creator of award-winning Nightmare Frames and Urban Witch Story.
