Already out on the Nintendo eShop in the West, Ancestors Legacy makes its way to Asia and Japan. Please don’t question my geography, Japan is in Asia, but that’s how it’s recognised for releases.

If you can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, or you just want something different to a third-person action title, then this real-time strategy might be the alternative.

Just because the Switch is popular on the commute, it doesn’t mean it has to be populated with in-and-out arcade games; strategy titles work too, with OTTTD being one of my favourite games on the Switch full stop.

Ancestors Legacy has already been out on PC for some time as this is familiar territory for the genre, but will it translate on to Nintendo’s favourite rectangle?

Leoful and Destructive Creations have teamed up to release the game on the Switch in Asia and Japan. I was about to question why it wasn’t available in the West, but <ahem> it already is, I just hadn’t heard about it.

Key features include:

  • Precise controls with native controller support;
  • Four playable nations in an extensive single-player campaign inspired by historical events;
  • Advanced tactical options combining the use of terrain, experience, and morale;
  • Cinematic battle camera view that puts you right in the center of the action;
  • Streamlined resource management and village construction.

Like the witchcraft that is The Witcher 3Ancestors Legacy has been squeezed onto one cartridge for this physical release, which also features a code to redeem a digital artbook as well as the original soundtrack.

See it in action here:

Ancestors Legacy will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other Southeast Asia territories from the 24th of July, with the Japanese version coming later.
