Not One B.I.O.T.A. But 54 Of Them
Something is alluring about the upcoming B.I.O.T.A. Let’s be upfront: it’s got to be the visuals that shine, but after getting past that, this 2D Metroidvania looks like a very entertaining experience.
While it shouldn’t be a selling point, the swappable colour palettes are appealing. It was amazing how good this was in Who’s Lila?, but there are 54 here(!). It allows for a very customisable experience, no?
With eight playable characters and two different endings, B.I.O.T.A. is a platformer at heart, giving off that Game Boy vibe, you’ll pick a team of mercenaries, then head into a mining colony infected by an alien plague and… “talk to them”.
Key features include:
- 54 unique 4-color palettes to swap
- 8 playable characters to unlock and upgrade
- Story campaign with two endings
- Arcade levels where you control a submarine, destroy enemies in a powerful mech and chase starships in outer space
- Additional time trials and target shooting game modes
- Retro fun with modern-day convenience
- Energizing chiptune-synthwave soundtrack
…and a trailer?
B.I.O.T.A., from small bros and Retrovibe, will be available on Steam from the 12th of April. Can’t wait until then? Have a go at the demo!
