BodyQuest: My Mind's Tellin' Me No, But.. Ahem

Sounding like a game for Customs and Border Control, BodyQuest is an upcoming exploration of the human anatomy – but before that gets you jumping out of your seat, it’s an educational experience by Didactoons.

Starting this news piece with some boring insight, I’ve worked in education in the past and an advocate for kids having fun when learning. Put a label on it ‘study time’, and they don’t commit. Here Artax Games nails it by releasing it on the Switch.

This says it all:

Releasing games that help children and families learn while having fun is important to us. It isn’t just about knowing where your kidney or your gallbladder is. It’s about learning what they do and how to look after your body.

Using real science with exploration, BodyQuest is a family-friendly title that has players battling bad bacteria and ‘mowing down mucus’. Yum. But it’s not solely an action-adventure, as there’ll be packed full of knowledge-based quizzes and puzzles.

Interestingly, there’s a plot. An infection arrives from outer space, and your friend Finn gets sick. You need to create a cure that will save him and humanity. Not much of an ask then? Pick from one of four young scientists and doctors, and you get to relive Inner Space (ask your nan) as you head into Finn’s body for a solution. Remember, family-friendly.

Key features in BodyQuest include:

  • 25 different levels with more than 60 different test challenges.
  • 5 worlds related to body systems: Musculoskeletal, Digestive, Respiratory, Nervous & Circulatory.
  • 4 playable characters to personalise to your liking with more than 20 customization items.
  • 7 nano-skills to unlock by upgrading your nano-tool.
  • Varied gameplay mechanics exclusive for each level: bridges, canyons, puzzles, dark smoke, giant rolling balls, lasers, hurricanes…
  • 5 types of different enemies to dodge or defeat.
  • Up to 20 special collectible items with additional anecdotes about famous scientists.

And here’s a video:

BodyQuest will be available on the Nintendo Switch on the 25th of March.
