I momentarily forgot about Boreal Tenebrae. That’s not because it’s forgettable, but there’s something like 11 videogames being released this year on all platforms, and I can’t remember them all. Ok, maybe there are a few more than that.

But this game is unique. Why is that? Aside from being influenced by the 90s PlayStation classics, there’s a hint of Twin Peaks, and all other manner of abstract ideas in this atmospheric horror (among other delights).

The folk at RedDeer Games are arguably busier than Santa’s elves (if they exist), putting out another excellent title. I have to say that Boreal Tenebrae is the one I’ve been looking forward to most. That said, they’ve just announced a point and click game. More on that once I post this.

Rather than repeat what was said before, here’s a list of the key features:

  • Retro game stylized as classics from the 32bit PS1 era
  • Bizzare horror adventure with dark atmosphere, surreal elements, and gore
  • The contrast in the form of cartoon-retro graphics, and a dark story
  • Story-driven quests with multiple characters
  • Simple adventure game controls
  • Deepened figures, different points of view on the same phenomena

And a video:

(also, check out the animated short if you haven’t already seen it):

Boreal Tenebrae release date is set for the 8th of April and will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and the Xboxes (the One and Series X/S).
