C Is For Cookie Clicker
8 years in development sounds either ambitious or lazy. Did it take 8 years to fine tweak Cookie Clicker to shoehorn countless genres into one to form endless gameplay, or were Orteil dragging their heels?

It’s neither really, as those 8 years (once again) were about listening to the community who played the web-based version so that the game could release in full on Steam. And this isn’t a niche community – Cookie Clicker has hauled in some 4 million daily users!!
Initially developed in 2013, but now with the assistance of Playsaurus, the game is about making a ridiculous amount of cookies. Already a winner. As a clicker game, you’d expect the novelty to wear off and be paper-thin, but with 600+ upgrades and 500+ achievements, it feels like (here it comes) it’ll take 8 years to unlock everything.
Here are just some of the features in the game:
- Collect cookies and spend them to earn even more cookies
- Over 600+ upgrades
- Over 500+ Achievements
- Pet your dragon
- Mini-games
- Unlock heavenly perma-upgrades
- Cloud saving (no more deleting cookies by accident)
- Music by C418
And a Cookie Clicker trailer?
Cookie Clicker is out now. I’m a little hesitant about looking at it as I was pretty much addicted to Great Hero’s Beard. Considering all the features and my penchant for cookies, this could be career-ending…
