The Carnival Is Back In Time, This Time It's Venice

The fact that ‘they’ never finished HBO’s Carnivale still makes me angry, though Beyond Booleans’Carnival, a folk horror point and click adventure, will definitely make it all better – especially as there’s a playable demo available.

As journalist James Maynard, your written assignment is on Venice. However, it doesn’t go according to plan, and you soon discover’ a disturbing underbelly to the local customs, and a hideous core to the notion of Venetian Pride‘.

I stumbled upon Carnival via X and immediately fell in love with the low-res pixel art (using actual locations) and the ominous presence of the underlying evils that lurk within.

At the start of this article, I mentioned a playable demo—I wasn’t lying. Head to the respective Steam store page and give Carnival a little look-see.
