Collapsed is a rogue-like platformer heading to the Switch at the end of this month, featuring four different hunter classes as they protect humanity from extinction.

I have more rogue-likes on my digital shelves than I have food in the cupboards. They’re such a mainstay these days, especially on the Switch, that I’m getting a little tired of them.

But I have a little hope for Collapsed. It’s not a pixel art game, and in fact, looks like how Flashback would look if it were made in this day and age. The other fact is OverGamez is publishing it, and of late, the titles they’ve backed have been consistently good – Cubicity for one, and a review you’ll see later today, Potata.

This game is from the development team at Glaive Games (Twitter link) and is a platformer set in a post-apocalyptic world. As bloodthirsty enemies enter our solar system, humanity fights back with a range of hunters to defend, but also wipe out the threat.

The four types of hunter in Collapsed and they include the Reaper; a universal fighter capable of close combat and armed with a massive scythe. The Devourer is a long-range specialist using traps and spears, the Warrior is the tank of the group and can withstand plenty of damage but limited to short-range attacks. Finally, the Pest – a scientist that uses close-up flurries of attacks similar to a rogue.

Key features in the game include:

  • Play as one of four hero classes, each with their own set of abilities, skills, and combat style.
  • A vast skill tree offers you even more ways to customize your character. The skill tree is shared between all classes.
  • Create and combine over 100 different pieces of equipment, that help your character complete their mission more efficiently. The inventory storage is shared between all classes.
  • If you character dies, the loot and skills you’ve accumulated aren’t lost, but you must start over. Levels are randomly generated, so don’t worry — it won’t feel like Groundhog Day.

Collapsed states that it’s out tomorrow, but in reality, it’s the 29th August on the Nintendo eShop. It will feature a 15% discount in the early stages, so make sure you check it out!
