Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada Gets BIG Update

Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada Gets BIG Update

Have you ever heard of Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada? Not me. When I first got the release info that there’ll be a ‘massive Dandy Dungeon II Switch/Steam update’, I had to look it up.

Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada is an RPG from indie developers Onion Games. The team aren’t strangers to the gaming world having worked on games such as Rez and Super Mario RPG, and this update even has collaborations with Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and Touhou Project’s Zun.

Without knowing the above, after watching the trailer, I immediately smelled a clone and a cheap knock-off of some otherwise excellent indie titles as well as familiar franchises like Dragon Quest. My ignorance was soon squashed when it became clear that this is a comedy title.

Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada tells the tale of a frustrated 36-year-old programmer who’s had enough working for a top publisher and decides to create his own RPG. Coincidently, the programmer is also called Yamada.

The game looked like a fan-made piece at first, and I almost thought it was a spoof, but something tells me that this is a game to watch out for. Well, Dandy Dungeon Legend of Brave Yamada is already available, but this news piece is about the latest update: Dandy Dungeon II: The Phantom Bride.

Dandy Dungeon II: The Phantom Bride is an update for both the Switch and on Steam that adds a further 99 levels, more than doubling the original game.

Some of the features include:

  • More than 90 dungeon types, over 560 weapons & armor and 260+ monsters!
  • Over 130 original tracks of new music, Heaven’s Door: a 99 floor, post-game challenge dungeon!
  • Collaborations with world renowned Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and Touhou Project’s Zun!

When the update is available, it will also feature a 30% sale for this rogue-lite RPG. In the UK it will be £10.14, the U.S. $13.29 and Europe is €11.19. Halfway through putting this together, I added to my wishlist on the Switch and suggest you do too. For Steam users, you can follow the link.

If this has whet your appetite, have a quick look at the trailer below and stick with it. It looks like a lot of fun, and I’ll aim to report ‘my findings’ sometime after the 2nd of April.

The Dandy Dungeon II: The Phantom Bride update will be available from the 2nd of April for Steam and the Switch. Follow its progress on the official site.
