Had you heard good things about DreadOut 2 back in 2020 but gutted it was never available for the Nintendo Switch? Dun-duh-duh-duuuuuh: it’s out this month on the Nintendo eShop!

Developed by Digital Happiness and published by Soft Source Publishing, the series was initially launched in Indonesia in 2014 and was apparently ‘too scary for Western audiences’. Right… You play as Linda, a high school student who can sense and see ghosts.

In DreadOut 2, Linda isn’t an intermediary for those contacting loved ones about PINs and whether they’re happy in the afterlife, but she must stop them from harming her hometown and… the world! There’ll be all-new melee combat, a greater emphasis on puzzles and exploration, plus Linda can use her smartphone as a weapon.

Key features include:

  • Banish them all! Hunt defeat intangible ghosts with Linda’s smartphone camera, or use melee weapons and projectiles against physical ghosts
  • A world of dread: Explore Linda’s hometown and beyond, talk to residents (alive and dead!), complete side-quests, and delve deeper into DreadOut lore
  • Discover ghosts and urban legends: Search out spirits and uncover local myths to complete the Ghostpedia app on Linda’s smartphone
  • Terrifying boss spirits: Keep your nerve as you battle the supernatural realm’s most hostile ghosts, including the chilling Kuntilanak, and horrifying Gore Surgeon

As Bernard Lim of Soft Source Publishing said, “We and the team at Digital Happiness are very proud of the game and its success in Asia, and I’m particularly interested to see what Switch owners in the west make of it!”. You’ll get your chance to play DreadOut 2 from the 18th of January 2024.
