Launched on the Wii back in 2014, Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water gets a special digital deluxe edition for PC and consoles this October.

From KOEI TECMO, this Japanese horror adventure follows the paths of Yuri, Ren and Miu as they investigate Mt. Hikami after several disappearances. Surrounded by malevolent spirits, they have to master the Camera Obscura – a device that deals damage by taking a photo.

Like any decent weapon, the camera can be upgraded by taking the perfect shot: an image of the spirit and its spirit fragments simultaneously, unleashing a high-damage Fatal Frame attack. Aside from improving its performance, you’ll also be able to reveal details about the ghost’s past.

The new Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water released this year will feature a new Photo Mode where you can select any character or ghost and position them in a scene using various filters and techniques. A little like Code Vein, perhaps? In addition, there will be new costumes and accessories too – too many to list. There’s not, but I’m not doing it.

As the Fatal Frame franchise is over 20 years old, this deluxe edition celebrates it with a copy of the game, a digital artbook, and six costumes inspired by previous characters in the series.

The Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water special edition will be out on the 28th October 2021 for PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and the PC.
