Finger firmly on the pulse on all that is gaming news, I bring you details of the new Ghost of Tsushima trailer.

It was announced during the recent State of Play, but Ghost of Tsushima needs its own fanfare rather than piggybacking off the likes of the Resident Evil 3 remake or Predator: Hunting Grounds.

Nioh 2: Complete Edition PC Review: There Can Be Oni One
One of the best feudal Japan-based games, and featuring demons, too: a Nioh 2: Complete Edition review.

With the likes of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice climbing the list of most people’s GOTY (that’s Game of the Year, noob), now is the perfect time to jump on the bandwagon, what with Nioh 2 also out in the New Year, all in time for Tokyo 2020.

You won’t find Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on my list as I found it too bloody hard. Hopefully, Ghost of Tsushima isn’t anything like that. I might be able to forgive it in advance if it is as it’s really looking to be a gorgeous game. Then again, so was the other title from From Software. Ghost of Tsushima is by Sucker Punch, creators of the fantastic Infamous series.

I’m already growing tired of references to Kurosawa films. It’s as if all the other superb jidaigeki (period dramas – no, period as in era) didn’t exist and the western world only knows Akira Kurosawa. Despite being one of my favourite directors (I wrote a dissertation on him), there are other directors/titles that can be referred to. How about likening to past game titles in design? Nioh, Onimusha: Warlords and perhaps even Kessen could be influences? This is turning into an opinion piece rather than a news post, eh?

Anyways, irrespective of who or what has influenced this game, you can’t deny how stunning this looks and the premise. For once, it’s not a samurai piece set during the battle of Sekigahara or has any demonic/deity-like content, that has been leaked, at least. Instead, it’s set during the Mongol invasions of Japan in the 13th century – 1274 and 1281, finishing at about 2:36 pm. It’s an interesting time in Japanese history, so I’m intrigued as to where the story will take us.

The story must have been reworked a few times as Sucker Punch was looking for a writer back in April 2019. One of the responsibilities listed was:

Write high quality dialogue under tight deadlines for a diverse cast of characters who live in the world of 13th century Japan.

I wish I had applied.

Ghost of Tsushima looks even better than E3 2018 debut, and that’s saying something. Could it be the samurai iteration of God of War? Probably not, as no doubt they’re very different games, but that doesn’t stop me from making the comparison. My rules.

AngelGaze Has ‘The Look’
AngelGaze is a cerebral point and click adventure demo on Steam Next Fest with a penchant for the 80s.

As long as Sucker Punch finds the writer, hopefully, we’ll see this in Summer 2020, if not in time for the PS5 launch. I really hope they don’t delay it for that. Though, it would be a killer launch title.

They might do a Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild type thing and release it on the PS5 and the PS4. Who knows? Sony or Sucker Punch might…
