GI Joe Operation Blackout - Cobra La La La La La
Coming to consoles and PC this October, GI Joe Operation Blackout is a team-based third-person shooter.
In the UK, we used to have Action Force, but it eventually changed hands and adopted the G.I. Joe branding. It was much better, in my opinion. As a kid, I used to get a new G.I. Joe figure almost every week and was pretty much obsessed with these toys and later G.I. Joe The Movie (1987).
Now you have that as a briefing, you’ll understand why I’m stoked for this. Ignoring the ill-fated Channing Tatum nonsense, my last encounter with the brand was the early 90s – I’m not a toy collector or have anything in my house associated with this, but boy do I want to relive my childhood – GI Joe Operation Blackout looks superb.
A third-person adventure from Game Mill Entertainment and Maximum Games, featuring team play and split-screen co-op, we get to play as either Team Joe or Team Cobra. I’d always argue that the latter had better characters – as the baddies usually do, with the likes of Destro and Storm Shadow.
There are 12 playable characters, each with a unique power and customisation options such as weapons and skins. Predominantly a multiplayer experience with modes such as Capture the Flag, Assault and King of the Hill, playable locations include the Cobra HQ with an original story inspired by 80s-style comics.
