Gibbon: Beyond The Trees Launches On PC And Switch Next Week

Brace yourself: Gibbon: Beyond The Trees launches next week! Was that on the cards already? It only seems like yesterday we played it during the Steam Next Fest.

Unfamiliar with the game? First of all, it’s by Broken Rules who created Old Man’s Journey – a beautiful game on so many levels. In their latest, you play a gibbon gracefully flowing through the trees.

As elegant as the movement may be, the journey in Gibbon: Beyond The Trees is a perilous one, hitting home the message that there are so many species on the brink of extinction because of us. Yeah, like it or not, we represent humanity – regardless if you ‘wouldn’t hurt a fly’.

Key features in the game include:

• Master free-flowing dynamic movement based on brachiation, the way real apes swing through the trees
• Build momentum through dazzlingly acrobatic jumps, including launching from another gibbon’s hands in mid-air
• Experience the affecting tale of a family of gibbons trying to survive amid an encroaching human threat.
• Play through an hour-long adventure in story mode, or race to freedom through a procedurally generated jungle in liberation mode.
• Stunning 2D hand-painted visuals that breathe life into a rapidly vanishing world.
• Explore varied environments, from the wild jungles of Southeast Asia to the hectic human world beyond. 

I think Gibbon succeeds both as a fun experience and as a call to action, without one side of the experience compromising the other. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved, and I look forward to seeing the reaction from Switch and PC audiences.
