GRIME has a release date confirmed, and it’s closer than you think (I can read your mind, you dirty harlot). If a couple of hundred words will put you out, it’s the 2nd of August for PC and Stadia.

For those still here, GRIME is a game you want to wishlist, not because it’s from Akupara Games (Mutazione), who I’m a bit of a fan of and not putting this in as lip service, not because it looks really really cool, but because it is really really cool.

Clover Bite’s title follows a ‘nameless embodiment of destruction’ that knocks seven bells out of the local populace with organic, living weapons. The short time with the demo showcased all the hallmarks of an action RPG where you can grow the character based on your playstyle.

It’s not so important when people are on the lookout for a new game, but the introduction to this game was superb and got me fired up for more. GRIME is a hack and slash with a nice balance of arcade controls but autonomy to do your own thing.

Key features in GRIME include:

  • Eye-Popping Surrealism – Uncover mysterious secrets in weeping caves and face-covered deserts. Meet otherworldly characters in distinct civilizations across an organic, interconnected world – all rendered in unearthly 3D. Face foes born of the world itself, and swallow them whole.
  •
  • Living Weapons – Seamlessly swap weapons made of living creatures that mutate form during combat, from clawing swords to centipede whips.
  •
  • Death-Defying Combat – Punish enemies by parrying their attacks, smash them from the ground or even airborne, and absorb them to grow your strength as you wage war on a living world.
  • Unique Skill Progression – Hunt down and absorb challenging monsters to improve your skills and bring true customization to your playstyle
  • Challenge Astonishing Bosses – Battle against creatures dozens of times your size. Adapt to their strategies, withstand their assault, and consume them to gain game-changing abilities that affect both combat and traversal.

This is the bit where I insert the trailer, but I recorded some brief footage during the Steam Next Fest:

So, as mentioned at the beginning, GRIME’s release date is set for the 2nd August 2021 for Steam and Stadia.
