I took a well-deserved day off yesterday, but instead of taking a break away from the screen, ended up revisiting House Flipper for the bulk of the day. Going through my inbox, it doesn’t look like there’s much I missed, but will begin today with Hanako: Honor and Blade.

You might have come across it already, as it’s currently in Early Access. For those new to the title, it’s an online multiplayer game set in feudal Japan, developed by +Mpact Games.

A decade in the making, it’s a tribute to team lead Matt Canei’s late mother, represented by the Hanako clan and the opposing forces, the Yamai. The latter symbolises death, where the former clan is about ‘health and goodness’.

The Spirit Of The Samurai Is Legendary
Demons raid the village, and it’s up to a samurai, cat and Kodama to save it in the cinematic The Spirit of the Samurai.

Up to 24 players can participate in this skirmish, featuring swordsmen, spears, archers and ninja. As you can imagine, each class has their pros and cons, so think of Hanako: Honor and Blade as a sort of samurai version of Battlefield. Yes, the first one.

Environments are destructible, allowing for teams to devise suitable strategies for raids and defensive stances, plus the usual buffs, but within context. There aren’t power pills, but players head to meditation sites to replenish the health and all.

Hanako: Honor and Blade key features include:

  • Epic online battles set in Feudal Japan with up to 24 players
  • A symbolic struggle between the forces of life and death
  • Four game modes with unique features, including team deathmatch Battle, Capture the Scroll, Village Siege, and Castle Raid
  • Directional-driven combat that encourages strategy and precision
  • Four distinct warrior classes with different skill options for multiple playstyles
  • Dynamic environment changes

And this is what the gameplay looks like:

The full version of Hanako: Honor and Blade is set for summer, so you have two options. The first is to wishlist it and wait, or the second is to wishlist it, but grab the Early Access now on Steam.
