Hentai Vs Evil isn’t as hentai as the title would indicate, neither is it that evil. In short, it’s fun, but it’s a super quick experience, and unless you want to experiment with every single customisation in the game, it’ll be all over before you know it.

There’s no time to waste with a back story or a convoluted plot that requires you to swot up on the hentai universe (that would be a big ask and also irrelevant). All you need to know is evil’s here and enslaved your chums. Your mission: rescue and destroy.

A third-person shooter, you start with the first girl with all the customisation options available. Change the size of her thighs, her hairstyle, skin tone, breasts… ahh… there’s the hentai bit. Aside from the “eh-hehs” and bikini options, this isn’t ‘wait for your parents to pop out’ type anime or anything. Least, in my view.

Other than customising her appearance, you have a choice of two levels and can opt for a rescue mission or survival. There are three playable characters in Hentai Vs Evil, but you must release them from their rusty cages first and complete a simple objective of killing several reapers.

Hentai Vs Evil Review – PS4/5

The enemies in this Eastasiasoft game are mostly zombies – city dwellers and pirate folk, skeletons, orcs and said reapers with an unsightly scythe that will eat into your health bar faster than you can spell Mississippi. Said enemies will occasionally respawn without warning, almost always behind you, so once you have killed the reaper requirement, best locate the girl and get out of there.

So what’s at your disposal in Hentai Vs Evil? Not much, really. There’s a shotgun, and assault rifles – the more modern one over the AK47 was my preference for accuracy and rate of fire. The sniper rifle is often for one-shot kills, but the aiming down the scope is a pig to line up, so all those Fortnite no-scopes will help here.

Survival is naturally a different kettle of fish, and it’s best to keep moving

Other than the standard array of guns, there are no special powers, grenades or melee weapons. In fairness, you don’t want to get up close, as that spells a premature death. The girlies can jump, which can help with evasion, plus there’s a sprint option without any stamina gauge to worry about.

And that’s about it. After you rescue the first two girls, a new level opens up, but the girl you have to rescue is a duplicate and still only presents a full line-up of three. The replay value is typically completing the stages in faster times, or lasting longer in survival, then checking out the leaderboards.

Attack Of The 50ft Waifus

As a customisation whore, the options for kitting out your characters in Hentai Vs Evil is a little weak. Sure, you can build an R. Crumb Amazonian goddess, or a classic waifu in frilly lolita garb or even a bikini. If that’s your thing. But other than making them bald and perhaps giving them a zombie-like complexion, there’s not much else to do here.

You can steadily pick off evil with precision, knowing full well there isn’t anything lurking within the vicinity, when all of a sudden, the screen starts flashing red as something’s attacking you from behind.

My biggest beef with the game wasn’t the lack of variety or the quick unlocking of another platinum, but the collision detection with an enemy

It’s possible to alter the difficulty settings, but even when you’re getting a flawless 200 death count, just one encounter with a reaper or orc up close, and you can drop from 100% health down to 40% within seconds. Fortunately, there’s an abundance of first-aid kits as well as boosts such as incendiary ammo – the caveat being it’s for a limited time only.

I quite liked Hentai Vs Evil, and it reminded me a little of the Konnichiwa Games series such as H-Sniper World War II and The Last Of Waifus. It’s a quick-fire action piece that doesn’t require much focus, and despite the lack of things to do and repetition, it’s a nice little avenue for a couple of hours for a quick finish or perhaps to work on your times.
