Picking up hitchhikers ain’t all that bad – especially when it’s the likes of the VR version of Hitchhiker A Mystery Game, out this week on Meta Quest VR.

Developed by Mad About Pandas and published by Versus Evil, this narrative-driven journey was a standout title from last year. As an amnesiac passenger, you’re travelling with strangers trying to ascertain who you are, where you are, and why.

Hitchhiker A Mystery Game is a beautiful game, but what really stood out for me were the characters such as Vern, and the waitress. In my review, I recalled her existential rhetoric:

I sat back and held on to every word. If only I could have reached out to eat that pickle, I’d have been there.

Me

Well, now you can sit back and listen peacefully to these raconteurs plus embrace the 3D environments in VR. There are multiple points to take a break in the game, and the VR element is perfect for it. This game isn’t about control but a passive yet engaging experience, and now it will have the complete audio/visual package.

Bringing Hitchhiker into the VR gamespace made perfect sense from a narrative standpoint, particularly in the way we’ve been able to elevate the surreal road trip adventure with a player experience that feels like you’re actually inside the car.
