Insurmountable: Gripping Rogue-Lite Clings To Consoles

Make a mountain out of perma-death in rogue-lite Insurmountable, what with it being made available on consoles.

Insurmountable: Gripping Rogue-Lite Clings To Consoles

Three years ago, I wrote about Insurmountable on Steam and its upcoming release on consoles. Well, the wait is over, as Daedalic Entertainment (Capes) has confirmed that it will be out tomorrow.

Also, that headline is worthy of The Daily Star.

Insurmountable is a rogue-lite with <gulp> permanent death. With a procedurally generated environment, players will witness day/night cycles, dynamic weather, and randomly generated events. Fortunately, it’s just you, and you need not worry about securing trade routes in these mountains.

Key features include:

  • No two climbs are alike
  • Procedurally generated mountains
  • Dynamic world with different weather effects
  • Mysterious story about time loops
  • Hundreds of events with ever-changing outcomes
  • Strategic gameplay in path finding, stat and equipment management
  • 3 characters with different abilities

It’s funny how life is full of coincidences. While I’m very familiar with the game (though I haven’t had a chance to play it), it’s only now that I realised that the developers are ByteRocker’s Games—you might know them from the excellent Beatslayer. You don’t know it? Check it out!

In the meantime, Insurmountable is out on the 24th of April 2024 for both the PlayStations and Xboxes, plus the Nintendo Switch.
