Ion Fury Coming To Consoles In May

Ion Fury Coming To Consoles In May

Let’s take a step back a bit shall we and embrace the retro: Ion Fury. Ok, it’s not an older title, but you could easily be fooled into thinking it’s a title from the past.

Taking the classic aesthetic from the likes of the original Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, this throwback first-person shooter is prime for any 90s kid looking to relive their youth.

The parties involved in the game include developer Voidpoint and publishers 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment.

Back up there one second, son: 3D Realms?

3D Realms were initially behind the original Duke Nukem 3D, and it was an irresponsible third parent for me growing up in the 90s. In fact, Duke Nukem 3D was probably the first-ever game that I experienced expansion packs.

I’m sure I’m still an honorary citizen in one of those expansions.

Well, I’m already sold on Ion Fury before continuing, but let’s take a look under the hood.

You play Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison as she defends Neo D.C. against the forces of Dr Jadus Heskel.

Set in the future, she takes on giant robots and wendigos, wiping out cyborg infantry way before breakfast.

Much like its predecessors, Ion Fury features some retro-inspired weapons such as the dual-wield penetrator SMGs, the Disperser that utilises either shotgun shells or grenade rounds, and the best-titled weapon since the BFG: the Clusterpuck.

Sold.

Ion Fury uses the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D:

We never thought we would see the day where we could use the Build engine on modern consoles, but we think our players will enjoy the efforts of Voidpoint and General Arcade’s fantastic work.
