Is BioShock Collection really coming to the Switch?

Almost a week ago, there was an article online from Lootpots that spotted a hint of the BioShock Collection coming to the Switch.

The evidence was in a posting by a Taiwanese rating agency which had listed each individual title on their site. This doesn’t necessarily mean anything as it’s an isolated case, but as more and more reputable websites and newspapers report it, I’m wondering whether it has any credibility.

Are you ready for the Rapture?

It’s not as if there isn’t a demand on the Switch for these sort of titles as Overwatch has proved to be relatively popular, as well as ports for the Doom franchise. The modern FPS certainly has a place on the portable and if CD Projekt Red can do it with Witcher 3, and Bethesda with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there’s no reason why the BioShock Collection can’t make the transition.

First of all, the BioShock series wasn’t a current generation release. I had both BioShock and BioShock 2 for the PlayStation 3. I finished the first, but not the sequel. My only exposure to BioShock Infinite was the awesome trailer, though a few months ago I bought the BioShock Collection on the PS4. I still haven’t had time to play it.

With the proposed BioShock Collection on the Switch, there are supposedly all three titles, including the original DLC. It’s debatable whether all the titles and DLC will be on one release. Even with Witcher 3, there were cuts made to fit it all onto one cartridge. My feeling is they will be standalone releases. I just hope that it’s not going to be like Capcom with the Resident Evil series and each title has a premium price for an older title.

BioShock Collection - BioShock Infinite
To infinity… and beyond!

To save you the time looking it up, these are the three main BioShock games:

  • BioShock
  • BioShock 2
  • BioShock Infinite

There, that was harmless enough.

As Metro: Redux was recently announced for the Switch, the likelihood of the BioShock Collection coming to the Nintendo Switch is imminent. It’s a first-world problem really, but I’m sure most gamers identify with having the same title on multiple platforms, and I anticipate I’m more likely to play the BioShock Collection on the Switch, more than the PS4 version. Which I currently own. Mad.

Keep your eyes peeled for a Nintendo Direct announcement. Hopefully in the very near future.
