Cast your mind back to The Making of Karateka, and eagle-eyed time travellers will note I mentioned that it would be great if Jeff Minter featured in the Gold Master Series. Back to the room: Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story is out next month.

It was this legendary developer who made camels synonymous with the C64 (also based on a true story), brought cutting-edge gaming to the ill-fated Atari Jaguar with Tempest 2000, and proved that you needn’t be a zookeeper to own a llama or two.

Not the best introduction, but I’m saving everything else for when I get my hands on Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story. Here’s an example of what’ll feature:

  • The acclaimed originals. Play all the Minter classics you’ve heard of (and several you probably haven’t) — Sheep In Space, Andes Attack, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Matrix, Metagalactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time, Hellgate, Laser Zone, and many more — now with new quality-of-life features that make them more fun than ever before.
  • Gridrunner: Remastered. Digital Eclipse has updated Jeff’s signature shooter masterpiece with thrilling modern graphics and sound, while still running the core of the Commodore 64 version for 100% gameplay accuracy.
  • Light synthesizers. Explore two of Jeff Minter’s earliest light synthesizers, Psychedelia and Colourspace, with all-new options and features optimized for controller-based play.

A video for your pleasure:

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story launches on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and the Nintendo Switch on the 13th of March, as will my write-up.
