You maniac! Did you think that the GTA series started as the third-person open world crime heist it is today? Fool! In fact, it started very much as an excellent top-down experience, much like the newly released Maniac.
I am biased towards this game style as I absolutely loved the original GTA on the PC, then the PlayStation. With Maniac, from Transhuman Design and Skystone Games, it captures the essence of the classic game: mayhem.
The goal of the game is to cause disruption, but it’s not subtle. We’re talking car crashes, shootouts, and full-on crime sprees with all sorts of guns, power-ups, and tanks! I played the demo during a Steam Next Fest and immediately added it to my wishlist.
Here are some of the key features:
- Six insane characters with unique abilities. Cause chaos with Drunk Santa, Hot Dog Guy, and even clowns.
- Heart-pounding chase-driven action built on explosive physics and destruction
- With each new crime, the law gets more ticked off – police, FBI, military, special forces and more will all be on your tail
- Buy guns, explosives, and special items to keep your runs going longer
- Unlockable items and upgrades across all characters – better guns, landmines, sturdier cars, and more cash-per-crime. The upgrade path is yours to choose!
Maniac is in my cart now, so look out for a review in due course.
