MotoGP 20 Heading For Pole This Month

Like buses, there are no prominent motorbike games, then all of a sudden two show up at once, and both are high octane, hold onto your crotch events. This time around, it’s MotoGP 20.

You may recall the news, then later review of the rather excellent TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2. I know my motorbike games now, so I’m an authority. In fact, the first MotoGP game I played was back on the SNES when it resembled Super Hang-On and Road Rash.

MotoGP 20, from Milestone, has matured over the years and is all grown-up in a business suit. There’s a rather striking managerial part to the game, devising a strategy both on and off the pitch track.

Charming the pants off potential sponsors is critical, and having the right ‘backroom staff’, that is; the technical wizards that design the bikes and technology to accompany will help you with the win. Alas, it all comes at a price, so expect to balance the available funds and bike performance.

Without playing any of the more recent games in the series, MotoGP 20 does have a graphic editor to customise your rider. You can fiddle with their racing number, lower-back patch, stickers, bike livery and modify their helmet to ensure the rider stands out, both in appearance and results.

There are so many features in what appears to be a fusion of arcade-like qualities mixed with a simulator, that if I cover it all here, there won’t be anything in the review, should I end up getting this. In the meantime, have a look at the managerial career promo for a sneak peek.

With my recently acquired interest in TT Isle of Man 2 – Ride on the Edge 2, I’d be interested to see how MotoGP 20 pans out as while similar motorsports, they’re different games and there’s plenty of room for both titles.

MotoGP 20 hits shelves on the 23rd April for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Steam, Stadia and the Atari Jaguar. That last one might be a fib. North America, unfortunately, will have to wait until the 5th of May, but we’ll be sure to let you know how it is.
