A blast from the past, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission is a revamp of the classic 1987 arcade shooter Operation Wolf, and it’s coming to PC and consoles courtesy of Microids.

One of my first fond memories of using a cheat in a game was for the classic rail shooter Operation Wolf on the Amiga. Unable to get anywhere in the arcade game, it was the thing to do back then. Reliving this experience, alas, without cheats, will bring up many fond memories.

But Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission isn’t solely a remake capitalising on nostalgia. Developers Virtuallyz Gaming has built upon the 1987 classic to provide a new art style, plus an additional survival mode.

Here are some of the key features:

  • Comeback of the 1987 cult arcade game!
  • New art style
  • Non-stop action
  • A 6-level campaign that can be played by one or two players
  • A survival mode (endless waves of enemies)
  • A full blown arsenal (smg, shotgun, grenade launcher…)

A trailer wasn’t provided, but the VR version gives an idea of what to expect:

Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission already has VR versions out (as per the trailer above), but the non-VR version launches digitally on the 21st of September, 2023, for PC, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch.
