Minecraft still isn’t for me, and clicker-type games aren’t either (despite rinsing Great Hero’s Beard and even Femdemic), but Outpath warrants a bit of time – what with it being a playable demo during the Steam Next Fest.
In its defence, it’s an adventurous concept, defining itself as an experimental clicker. Sure, it’s experimental in that it’s something new, but not experimental in the sense of glitchy or problematic. In perspective, this is a demo, but from what I’ve played, it’s as tight as a duck’s arse.
As I don’t play Minecraft, I can only make assumptions when it comes to the similarities. At this stage, I’d compare Outpath to the excellent Forager, only from a first-person viewpoint. When I looked up the developer on the Steam page (David Moralejo Sánchez), their write-up mentions Forager. I’m not just a pretty face.
I was hopeful of lifting a few choice sentences or two as, to be honest, I’m a bit lost for words on what to write about. In short, you’re placed on an island and must source goods for survival and crafting. The clicker element is how you interact with the world, bashing away to harvest items, but you can turn your autofire off when it comes to building.
Three is the magic number, and once more, I’ll compare this to Minecraft, but because of the simplicity and upbeat way Outpath has been designed, it’s more like Forager – which is a compliment as I love that game. So yes, I run out of things to say as there are far too many games to play this Steam Next Fest.
Download Outpath if you like Forager and/or Minecraft. Don’t be put off by the clicker mechanic, as it’s a good thing here.
