There weren’t any press releases for this one; instead, I stumbled upon Pain Party after a brief Twitter session. Just a few words into it and the trailer, and it was worthy of some tippety-tappety typing.

It’s essentially a game show for 1-16 players by Icehelm; it’s a physics-based assault course with a story. You have an unfortunate mini-golf accident, waking in purgatory, only this representation is a Japanese style game show. I bloody knew it!

If you recall a review yonks ago, Tetsumo Party had players posing so they could pass a moveable Tetris-like wall. These game shows are commonplace even now on Japanese TV (and well worth the watch), and Pain Party captures that in a really funky art style.

As a physics-based game, precision is key as you learn to master the jump, but more importantly, stamina. Stamina means everything in this game, so you have to get to grips with it swiftly.

Here are just some of the key features in Pain Party:

  • Single player story mode
  • Up to 16 players online free-for-all
  • Demanding levels that will test your skills and endurance
  • Painful boss battles
  • Physics based pain
  • Precise movement and combat
  • Special item pickups to give the upper hand
  • Unlockable hats/masks

You can pick up Pain Party on the 25th of August when it comes to Steam Early Access.
