After the hoo-ha with Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story, it makes me wonder how Red Colony, from Shinyuden, slips through the net without any cries of outrage. Me? I could care less, and I’m not going that route again of giving my opinion.

In this 2D side scroller, you play Maria. A deadly virus has destroyed her colony, and she’s desperately trying to locate her missing daughter. On top of that, she seeks revenge on her cheating husband.

It’s a typical situation where ‘a crazy scientist plays God and experiments with the colonists’ DNA, a deadly virus infects them and turns them into blood-thirsty zombies’. You couldn’t make it up.

Anyhoo, it’s a bit like The Coma 2, also with puzzles, but more scares are thrown in as Maria tries to survive. And just in case it isn’t clear what type of game this is, it’s an ‘ecchi inspired horror game’. Ecchi means pervert, at least in most contexts, but it’s the kind of things kids say. Grown-ups prefer to use sukebe. I speak from experience, but I’m not on a list. It’s not that sort of experience.

What can you expect to see in Red Colony?

  • 2D side-scrolling horror action game.
  • Puzzles, scare scenes and little ammo.
  • Anime style graphics featuring an attractive female cast.
  • Homage to the classics of the genre.
  • Environmental and realistic sound for a more terrifying experience.
  • Twisted story.
  • Blood, gore and horror!
  • 2DTCT (2D Tear-Clothes-Technology)…(!?)
  • Drama inspired by ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘High School of the Dead’.
  • Graphic Novel story-telling with more interactive and immersive gameplay.

Want a trailer? Sure, why not?

Red Colony is out now on the Nintendo eShop. I know this as I saw it this morning. Research.
