‘Japan’s oldest indie publisher’ isn’t a Guinness World Record opener but a reference to PLAYISM, who has recently revealed Momodora: Moonlit Farewell – a Metroidvania developed by Bombservice, and available on Steam.

This isn’t a new IP per se, but the result of the developer’s experience with the Momodora series, making it available for veterans and newcomers. There have been four entries in the series since 2010, with this pixel art romp being the latest.

With the previous game selling over 800,000 copies worldwide, Momodora: Moonlit Farewell looks to build on that success. As the director of the game says, “Our newest game is coming out soon, and it’s the culmination of everything we’ve learned. It’s my sincere hope that players will find this a fun game and explore the contents as much as possible”.

Here are some of the features:

  • Gorgeous pixel art and animation
  • Action-packed gameplay focusing on melee combos, well timed dodges, and some ranged combat tricks up your sleeve
  • The “Sigil” system, which allows for greatly customizable play styles
  • Intense and core-shaking boss battles
  • Deep exploration into a world rich in lore and atmosphere
  • Freely adjustable difficulty levels, allowing you to relax and explore the alluring world at your own pace or take on mighty foes for a real challenge

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is available now on Steam. Details can be found below on the store page.
