A new title in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars Squadrons, will be out in October offering two sides of a story in the campaign mode, plus a 5v5 multiplayer option.

Whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not, playing a Jedi knight or flying an X-Wing is pretty cool, right? It’s been some time since we’ve seen any Star Wars games (right…), but the announcement of a starfighter-based title is exciting.

I’m not a big Star Wars fan, but ever since playing the 80s Star Wars arcade game, I’ve always been a fan of the first-person starfighter experience, and this new title could be great.

Could be great, as the reveal trailer is a cinematic one – a pretty one of course, but what will the gameplay be like? Well, for starters, it’s a 5v5 multiplayer experience featuring dogfights and fleet battles in the final days of the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, though Star Wars Squadrons will be a unique story.

A cocktail of EA, Motive Studios and Lucasfilm are behind the new Star Wars Squadrons, and they’ve catered for the solo player as there are two campaigns: fight in the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron or the Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron.

We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter.

Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios.

Through progression, you’ll be able to unlock new weapons, hulls and shield – including the option to customise the cockpit and exterior of the ship. No Monster decals here, but customisation will be an awesome addition.

Have a look at the trailer (not gameplay, but enough to get you excited):

Star Wars Squadrons will be coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin, Steam and the Epic Games Store on the 2nd of October. It also features Cross-play support!
