Sword of the Necromancer is a title I’ve been following whenever I’ve had time to do so as it’s going to be a belter.

A rogue-like that will be launching on current and next-gen consoles as well as PC, this title from Grimorio of Games and JanduSoft S.L will shift to open beta where players can experience the first dungeon and subsequent boss.

You play Tama, a former rogue who sets out to resurrect the priestess Koko, whom she swore to protect. Locating a crypt that supposedly has the power to raise the dead, she sets out to find the cursed sword of the necromancer to complete her task.

In Sword of the Necromancer, Tama can turn the enemies she encounters and uses them as allies in this dungeon crawler. But she can handle herself without the need to rely on the undead; she’s a master in swords, spears and bows.

Death is never the end, but upon death, she will lose all the gear or half of your level, so this isn’t one for gung-ho artists looking to steamroll through as a hack and slash. She can also clone herself, allowing for a friend to jump in for a spot of co-op.

We’ve been a big fan of action rogue-likes like Enter the Gungeon and The Binding of Isaac, so we wanted to make something that took what made these games great and add our own unique spin on it…we thought it would be cool if you could turn the very monsters that were just trying to kill you into weapons that could be unleashed against the opposition.

Here’s another trailer in anticipation:

Sword of the Necromancer will be out later this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. For the latter, add to your wishlist on Steam now.
