When ‘Rubik’s cube’ shows up in the press info for The Shape of Things, alongside ‘No punishment system’, one has to think whether this is some bastardisation of an oxymoron? A Rubik’s cube is punishing, right?

Ok, so I’ve finally completed one in the past couple of years (finally), but it wouldn’t be my go-to activity to chill. This wording intrigued me, so watching the trailer for Hyper Three Studio’s latest title was a pleasant surprise. Anyone into A Little To The Left, or perhaps Tiny Lands (by the same developer as this), should love it.

The Shape of Things is a 3D puzzle game about problem-solving objects, putting them in the correct order, but with a chill vibe. Rotate, pan and scale items until you… find the shape of things. Key features?

  • No pressure and no timers. Just chill and progress at your own pace.
  • Easy to pick up and put down.
  • Adjust your cosy room mood by changing the weather and the time of the day.
  • Comfy to play using only 1 hand (The other hand is for a hot drink!)
  • Pleasing sound effects and atmosphere.
  • Original soothing background music.
  • Good for just chatting and streaming with your community!
  • Play across adorable thematic worlds!
  • No punishment system. Life is hard enough!
