It would seem that dystopia is on the minds of most these days, and we certainly can’t complain about the wealth of cyberpunk titles of late. The one on show here is The Sundew, heading to PC and the Switch in the summer.
Misreading the year this is set, The Sundew is being developed by one-woman studio 2054. The story follows the aftermath of a future war, following the protagonist, a beat cop.
Drawing inspiration from LucasArts and Wadjet Eye Games (not personally familiar, but their catalogue looks great), the focus is on storytelling using pixel art and minimalist sound design.
Your character, Ann Isbobe, is a cybernetically enhanced cop in a time where cyborgs have become taboo and replaced by droves. With their dark past, you will investigate a global conspiracy in the dystopian landscape.
After several years of work and many adventures, The Sundew is finally about to see the light of day. I see this game as a world that players will be able to enter, followed by other games in the same universe. My greatest joy will be to see the players take over this world and make it their own!” Agnès Vuillaume, solo developer of The Sundew.
Key features include:
- Guide Anna Isobe, a cyborg cop with a dark past, through the unravelling of a global conspiracy.
- Experience a diverse cast of characters, each with their own secrets and history.
- Explore Shibukawa and the remnants of the old world.
- Make decisions that will change the fate of humanity, for better or worse.
In development, you can wishlist the game on Steam now, though it will be heading to consoles, too.
