UK Games Chart Is No Surprise

Looking at the games chart for the week ending 6th June, Nintendo shows how to go squeeze 50+ titles into a top ten list.

Despite all the quality indie titles coming out across the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, FIFA 20 proves to be the powerhouse as always and dominates the charts.

You could say that a gentle nudge from the recent State of Play discount helped with sales, but FIFA 20 is like one of those old songs from the early 90s that had a no.1 for umpteen weeks and it gets a little stagnant sometime looking at the same title.

Not that I have anything against FIFA 20, but you could give Ganbare! Super Strikers a go, or why not look on your local Gumtree or Craigslist for a used Amiga 500 and grab yourself a copy of Sensible Soccer?

Ganbare! Super Strikers - Masaki

There’s no surprise that Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War and Days Gone all make it into the top 20 – also on offer, but great titles at that.

As for Nintendo, their 51 Worldwide Games boosts the numbers (if you’re counting individually), along with familiar staples such as Mario Kart Deluxe and Animal Crossing (seemingly the only game that’s being shared on social media these days!).

Ring Fit Adventure is currently in second place, and no shock there when so many people are at home during lockdown and trying to reverse the eating process.

This was a title I aimed to pick up at Christmas but was sold out – resellers have since clocked in on the value of the title and if you can pick it up, it’s for a few more pennies than it was at the tail end of 2019.

Death Stranding - In the private room
Now what?

Death Stranding is still holding up in the top 30 as the themes are those which we can all relate to; falling over, the rain and dodgy sunglasses.

Predictions for next week? Perhaps we’ll see some of the sports titles dropping a little as lockdown restrictions gradually lift and people get back to the real thing, but the FIFA series is always going to be on top.

I reckon that Outer Worlds may creep up from its current 30th place. It got slated by quite a few critics saying that the Switch doesn’t do it justice, but reading comments from the gaming community, many defended it and quite a few said they’d be buying it, perhaps in spite?

See, there’s no such thing as bad publicity…
